RiPROCESS - Airborne Processing Software

RiPROCESS

RiPROCESS is a software platform designed to run RiANALYZE and RiWORLD simultaneously. It covers four major tasks in dealing with airborne laser scanning data:

  • User interface to organize, process and archive all data related to a single project
  • Visualize data on different scales:
    • large scale as rasterized data
    • small scale as point clouds in 3D
  • Calibrate the system and/or adjust the scan data to minimize inconsistencies in the laser data
  • Exporting data into widely supported formats

RiANALYZE - Airborne Processing Software

RiANALYZE 560

The RIEGL LMS-Q560 provides its data as digitized echo signals, scan angles, and time stamps in a binary data stream, stored during data acquisition on a data recorder. The main tasks performed by RiANALYZE 560 are:

  • Carrying out the full waveform analysis to get from the reconstructed echo signal to estimates for the number of targets for every laser measurement, and subsequently the range, the amplitude, and an echo width for every detected target.
  • Converting the raw data range and scan angle into points in the scanner’s Cartesian coordinate system, preserving the additional data amplitude and echo width for every target.
  • Pre-classification of the targets into terrain and off-terrain points by means of a decision tree based on the estimated parameters of the full waveform analysis.

RiWORLD

RiWORLD performs the following tasks:

  • Geo-referencing laser data by merging the laser data (output of RiANALYZE 560) and the POS data (output of the software to post-process the data of the IMU/GPS raw data; this software is provided by the vendor of the IMU/GPS system, not by RIEGL). For geo-referencing, RiWORLD offers a very flexible model to describe the geometry of the system combining laser scanner and IMU.
  • Generating a search tree, i.e., a quad tree, to have fast access to the point cloud data even in huge data files.
  • Generating rasterized data for visualization and statistical data.

RiACQUIRE

  • RiACQUIRE is designed to assist the system integrator with setting up the airborne laser scanning system and provides the tools for the operator to control the system during the mission.
  • RiACQUIRE smoothly integrates with Riegl’s post-processing software packages, as it is also project oriented and uses the same data structures, allowing project data to be easily exchanged.
