How do I fulfill my VISA requirements (for International Attendees ONLY)?

Apply now for your Visa: because of the number of visa applications and the need for thorough security reviews, the visa application process can take several months. It is strongly encouraged that travelers to apply for their visas as early as possible.

Passport Requirements to Enter the United States:

  • As of December 31, 2006, anyone traveling to or from the US via air or sea from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda must have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the US.

  • As of June 1, 2009, the above requirement extends to all land border crossings, as well as air and sea travel.

  • Effective January 12, 2009, all Visa Waiver Program visitors are required to register for online travel clearance through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). It is suggested that individuals who plan to take advantage of VWP apply for ESTA authorization when they begin planning their trip to the U.S. and no later than 72 hours before their flight. In many cases authorization is available within seconds, but cases that receive an “Authorization Pending” response may require the full three days. Individuals that may make short notice trips to the U.S. may apply for ESTA authorization without specific travel plans. ESTA approvals are generally valid for two years. However, there are a number of cases in which a new ESTA approval may be required, such as issuance of a new passport.

  • To register, the visitor must submit an online application at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. The application requires submission of biographic and passport information, and also requests travel details. Once submitted, the application is reviewed against appropriate national security and law enforcement databases. There is currently no fee for ESTA applications.
  • If the application is approved, an ESTA travel authorization will remain valid for up to two years or until the visitor's passport expires, whichever comes first. While it is valid, the authorization may be used for multiple entries to the U.S.

  • Although a visitor's ESTA registration may be approved, it does not guarantee that he/she will be admitted to the U.S. All visitors are subject to inspection upon arrival and may be denied entry at the discretion of U.S. border officials.

  • If the ESTA application is denied, or if the visitor does not apply for ESTA clearance, then the visitor must obtain a B-1/B-2 visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in order to enter the U.S. for short-term business or tourism.

  • As of January 20, 2010, this requirement will be strictly enforced.

MAPPS: Winter Conference

January 22, 2012 - January 26, 2012
Arizona Biltmore Hotel | Phoenix, AZ

MAPPS sponsors a number of informative conferences and meetings on business practices, markets, legislation, and technology affecting private mapping firms. Speakers have included a number of Congressman such as Jack Brooks (author of the "Brooks Act"), senior officials in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Federal Highway Administration, National Park Service, NASA and Bureau of Reclamation. MAPPS has hosted former Colorado Governor Richard Lamm, a candidate for President of the United States in the 1996 election campaign and former Interior Secretary James Watt, as well as management, organizational, and motivational speakers.

MAPPS hosts a summer conference and a winter membership meeting. These 5-day events provide the principals of surveying, mapping, remote sensing and GIS firms a special, unique opportunity to meet, learn, and discuss the latest issues impacting their business in a relaxed resort setting. Moreover, MAPPS is the only national mapping organization to hold an annual Washington, DC conference, featuring specific information on legislation, policies and programs that impact Federal contracting opportunities and make the voice of private practice surveying and mapping heard in Federal agencies and the Halls of Congress.

ILMF: International LiDAR Mapping Forum

January 23, 2012 - January 25, 2012
Hyatt Regency | Denver, CO

The International LiDAR Mapping Forum [ILMF], the premier event for the LIDAR industry attracting professionals from all over the world and supported by ASPRS is delighted to be returning to Denver, CO for their 12th annual event from January 23-25, 2012. The 11th Annual Conference was held in New Orleans earlier this year and welcomed a total of 576 delegates from 33 countries who collectively gave rave reviews and feedback on a successful and prosperous 3 days.

A major focus of this event is the three day world class Technical Conference, where speakers from the international LIDAR community will be reporting on latest technology advances and recent projects, highlighting actual experiences and lessons learned in aerial and bathymetric LIDAR with a focus on mobile mapping. Technology advances resulting in faster and more compact data capture systems are reshaping the LIDAR mapping market. Combining these with complementary data processing and visualization systems is now opening up a whole new range of applications, and, more importantly, introducing new end-customers to the cost benefits of LIDAR mapping. All this bodes well for an internationally expanding LIDAR market. With the falling cost per mile of data capture and processing, surveys can now be conducted more often and updated more frequently.
